A rural care facility’s lack of safe and efficient transport for relationship-nurturing home visits and hospital appointments hundreds of kilometers away, which was severely compromising its service to the disabled in its care, has received an R800 000 lifeline. The impoverished rural Western Cape Town of Elim is the base for Elim Home, one of the region’s very few full-time residential facilities for intellectually and physically disabled children and young adults from disadvantaged communities. Although it has long delivered an all-encompassing service, it has lacked a vital component… transport for its residents.
